Multi-instrumentalist and Mongolian Khöömii Overtone Singer Michael Ormiston has been interested in local music from all over the planet before the “world music” tag came about. He has an extensive and ever growing collection of rare tracks to mine from for each show as well as recording interviews with local musicians and listeners about their passion for music near and far.
This months show features music from Malaysia (early 1950’s), Blues legends Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee live at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, a 1969 panpipe ensemble from the Solomon Islands, a track from the London Brew a new album celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Miles Davis classic, Bitches Brew, Uzbekistan in 1962, a 1974 recoding of the vocal gymnastics of Jeanne Lee, American Mother of Folk Jean Ritchie live at the 1959 Newport FolK festival, Virtuoso Cellist Rohan De Saram, A track from the new Lankum release, music from Iran in 1939 and Peter Seeger Live in Newport.
