Listen Show 17 : A special feature on the concerts and installations commissioned for LISTEN
This programme focusses on the concerts and installations commissioned for the LISTEN season of sound art. LISTEN hosted concerts by Scanner and Errollyn Wallen and installations by Scanner and Artmusic.
Errollyn Wallen performed a programme of piano music and songs at Christ Church and Scanner performed his audio visual work Mass Observation at the Silk Mill following its permiere the year before at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Our Frome presentation of the work was the UK premiere. Scanner was also commissioned to create a new work, Other People’s Stories, a sound installation inspired by a box of photographs found at the auction house in Frome. Visitors to the Round Tower Gallery of Black Swan Arts where the piece was presented were fascinated by the photos and enchanted by Scanner’s audio interpretation. Artmusic’s magical installation Lachrymae, had been part of the first ever Frome Festival in 2001. In 2019 as part of LISTEN it was recreated in an outdoor version for the Blue House Gardens in the centre of town and, for one Sunday afternoon, accompanied by live singing from Jackdaws Songbirds.
This programme features all of the above and more……..
Thanks to Errollyn Wallen and Scanner for supplying audio material; Michael Ormiston for recording live events and Andrew Shackelton for editing.
