This months Globalfrome show features new a track by amazing American guitarist, improvisor and composer Julian Lage, Música Criolla from Peru in 1928, the late Ainu (Japan) cultural treasure Umeko Ando, experimental voice artist Janneke Van Der Putten, ‘Rhapsody in Bluegrass’ by Banjoist extraodinaire Bela Fleck celebrating the 100th anniversary of George Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue, Panama in 1928, A collission between Japanese medieval epic story telling/singing and French contemporary experimental rock band PoiL, the first piece recorded at the WDR studio for electronic music in Cologne in 1952, multi instrumentalist Henri Texier, Haitian Méringue dance music from 1930 and a southern English gypsy traditional singer Phoebe Smith from 1956.
Multi-instrumentalist and Mongolian Khöömii Overtone Singer Michael Ormiston has been interested in local music from all over the planet before the “world music” tag came about. He has an extensive and ever growing collection of rare tracks to mine from for each show as well as recording interviews with local musicians and listeners about their passion for music near and far.
