This months Global Frome show features a classic 1977 track from French multi-instrumentalist Henri Texier, A frenzied Black Sea Fiddle dance tune from 1939, The Gate from guitarist/Composer Mary Halvorson’s new Album Cloudward, Nick Drake, Subcontrabass Flute with Mongolian Throat Singing, A traditional irish murder ballad sung by Lankum’s Radie Peat, A Japanese Koto Trio from 1927, Bwiti forest spirit music from South Gabon, The late Trombonist Alan Tomlinson, Zimbabwe 1954 and Rafiki Jazz playing an arrangement of a song by legendary Gambian roots pioneer Ifang Bondi.
Multi-instrumentalist and Mongolian Khöömii Overtone Singer Michael Ormiston has been interested in local music from all over the planet before the “world music” tag came about. He has an extensive and ever growing collection of rare tracks to mine from for each show as well as recording interviews with local musicians and listeners about their passion for music near and far.
