This week FromeFM have been recording a pilot programme with BBC Radio Bristol about community radio. It was a magazine type programme with radio stations FromeFM, Somer Valley, 10 Radio, GloucesterFM taking part and featuring clips from some of their shows and a bit of chat about the difference community radio makes.
FromeFMs clip was from ‘Ralphs Finest Hour’ where presenter Ralph introduces the ‘You need to know’ campaign for Autism awareness.
Mags Gregory and Phil Moakes went to the BBC Bristol radio studio for the pilot. ‘It was great fun making the programme and interesting to see the studio set up is not so different from our own’.
Our picture shows presenter Laura Rawlings, Dom from Somer Valley and Phil & Mags from FromeFM.
FromeFM have also been asked for clips by another BBC Radio producer who is also making a pilot. These clips are all talk based and are highlighting how community radio does stuff that commercial radio and the BBC don’t such as drama, politics and airing local issues.
FromeFM are delighted to welcome Garston Vets on board as the latest in our stable of station sponsors. Listen out for their advert each day and also for La Bisalta restaurant who came on board last month.

These are exciting times for 96.6 FromeFM and one part of this in particular is the success of the weekend Breakfast Show. Launched at the start of May, the show has been going great guns every Saturday and Sunday between 8-10am with four teams of presenters live on air and online at www.fromefm.co.uk.
We also ran a breakfast show every morning of the Frome Festival which included studio guests from many of the events.
Pictured are four of the intrepid jocks: l-r: Dave Clark, Alexander Hawkins, Suzi Holland and Matthew Sims.
FromeFM spokesman, Dave Watkins, explained, “We are grabbing the imagination of the good people of Frome and beyond as they tune in to start their weekend mornings. Whether you are getting up to go to work, or having a lie-in, or sat in the kitchen having your cereal, tune in to the show. This is the only radio station that is made in Frome and is all about Frome; no other station does this! Each show has a different team and the aim for all of us, is to tell you what is happening in the area that day and the upcoming week. There is usually a studio guest and we welcome any organisation to get in touch with a view to coming in. We play some of the best music around, mostly from artists you will know and some from artists you didn’t know you liked until you heard them!”
“People are listening all over the town, in homes, businesses and coffee shops. Tune in and share the vibe that the FromeFM Breakfast Show is THE best way to spend your time between 8-10am every weekend. “
