Where The Water Lies is a student band of young Frome teenagers. The lineup includes Solo Ray Candy singer and guitarist, Jude Schofield Guitarist, Skye Whitty bass player and Mitchell Price on drums. They write and compose most of their own songs with the odd cover thrown in. They are indie rock with influences from the Foals, Pear Jam, Alt J and back as far as early blues from the likes of Lead Belly. July’s FFM show will also feature a solo set, by their singer and guitar player, the aptly named Solo Ray Candy.
Talk on the wild side…
On this week’s show we had local naturalist and TV presenter, Simon King, talking about his work with wildlife and launching a FromeFM nature strand and Citizen Science initiative. Over the summer we’ll be informing people about ways in which they can contribute to citizen science projects locally (e.g. Butterfly Count, RSPB surveys etc) and associated subjects like making a wild-life friendly garden.
We also had Paul Wynne on the show to talk about what our Town Council is doing and Quintyn Howard-Evans - Trustee of the Frome Carnival appealing for volunteers and support for this year’s Carnival in the town.
All that and community news plus our weekly philosophy slot to help you live a better and more fulfilling life – this week, it’s The Wise Old Man talking about praise and criticism on social media.
Tune in and wise up!

Where do we go from here?
On Friday 22nd July FromeFM will be recording and Live video streaming the “Where do we go from here?” political debate at Rook Lane from 8pm.
Organised by Independents for Frome Town Councillor Pippa Goldfinger
This is the video recording from the FromeFM live streaming on the day….
The press release for the event states:
The EU referendum has left many of us feeling directionless and hopeless. What does it mean for our country? How do we heal some of the huge divides that have opened up? Where do we go from here?
Those who led the ‘Leave’ campaign have jumped ship and Labour is fracturing. National politics is a confusing mess. If we want a democracy that listens and responds, that puts people in control, is it time to form alliances, build bridges and work together for a new way?
Could we fight a general election with a progressive alliance? What would it look like and what steps do we need to take? Sticking with old party allegiances can’t deliver a more equal, democratic society so let’s start talking and take action.
We’ve organised an initial meeting in Frome on 22 July to kickstart this debate. We have Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton and Hove, the Guardian journalist John Harris and will confirm other speakers as soon as possible.
We will be recording the speakers and debate and we will organise follow up meetings, so even if you can’t be there on the night you can still join us.
Art in the Radio Studio…
This year, for the first time, FromeFM is taking part in Frome Open Studios. As venue 15 the local community radio station is hosting an artist in residence during Frome Festival 2016.
The exhibition, a collection of surreal and dream like wood engravings, is entitled ‘I Wish Animals Could Talk’. The ideas for Jenny’s pictures come from dreams/ daydreams/ memories/ and conversations with her two young children.
Jenny is a self-taught artist who started wood engraving in September 2015. She attended a course run by Frome Community education at the Cheese and Grain. The tutor, Chris Pig, also lives in Frome (and is also exhibiting for Frome open studios at Black Pig Studio (venue 3). She is just about to finish her 3rd ten week term of the course. This will be her first exhibition of my wood engravings.
She lived in Berlin for 2 years from 2009- 2011. She made costumes for DJ’s and decorated venues for club nights. She ran creative workshops at a local gallery to engage the local community and improve spoken English language in a relaxed atmosphere. She also renovated a shop into a studio/ live in space where she designed and sold bags.
The exhibition is open on both Festival weekends (2nd / 3rd and 9th / 10th July) from 11.00 am till 5.00 pm. Come and meet the artist and see inside your local community radio station.
