Sheer Isolation

FromeFM are airing a weekly programme under the name ‘Sheer Isolation’, which is built around the ‘Sheer Isolation Podcast’, a podcast produced by Sheer Music promotor Kieran Moore and ex-Treefest organiser Jon Ponting. The core ambition of the podcast is to promote the local music scene in the West of England, from bands to venues, from festivals to soloists. Each edition features an interview with a special guest, together with music news and information on how the music industry in the West Country is coping during the pandemic.

The podcast is thirty mintues long, so the remainder of the one hour programme features music by up and coming artists from the West Country. The Sheer programme currently goes out at 5pm on Thursdays and 12pm on Fridays. Find out more here.

Radio Zummerzet by the Wassail Theatre Company

Radio Zummerzet logoFrome FM are broadcasting a one hour programme featuring the three episodes of the new radio play by the Somerset Wassail Theatre Company. Thwarted by COVID and the lockdown, and unable to perform live, Wassail have tried their hand at producing a radio play for the first time. What is very topical is that the theme of the play is community radio! Each episode features local actors playing radio hosts and members of the public in ‘call-in’ sections, along with sections to hightlight the work of local musicians. UK Shed Show

The UK Men’s Sheds Association are working with the Frome Shed, and Frome FM to broadcast a two-hour radio show for the next eight weeks (more if necessary) on the topic of “Staying Connected”.  The first show will be 10am on the 25th March 2020.

The emphasis will not be on Coronavirus, but on “Sheds Staying connected”. Whilst being led by Men’s and Women’s Sheds, We hope that the content has a broad appeal to all who are staying at home and self-isolating.
The purpose of this show is to help soften the blow of self-isolating and keep people more in touch with the Sheds and the community they belong to.
The radio show will be made up of telephone interviews with people country-wide about their Sheds, and what they get up to in them. There will also be other guests taking part, which may include subject matter experts, there will some music, and also the opportunities for people to send messages to their Shedders who are self-isolating.
We anticipate that there will be ideas from contributors on how people  can “stay connected”. This will include examples of Community involvement. We aim to have a level of light-heartedness and humour.

Fundraiser for Chateau Gontier “Bridges After Brexit” River Festival

Several Frome-based musicians will be performing at a “Bridges after Brexit” Riverside Festival in Frome’s twin town, Chateau Gontier, on 25th July 2020. The acts include singer, Sara Vian, acoustic-punk band, The Raggedy Men, synth-pop outfit Sweet Machine and Americana duo Harding McCabe. The festival was conceived by Chris Hall, a resident of Chateau Gontier, who set up “Musical Ames” and the “Singlish” choir together with Patrick Moss of Soaring Magpie Records and Magpie’s Folk Cafe (Frome FM). The festival will also feature five acts from Chateau Gontier.

This Sunday 23rd February there is an afternoon of music downstairs in The Cloisters at The Bennet Centre on Vicarage Street, to help raise funds to go towards the travel expenses of the Frome musicians who are appearing at the festival. The event is being put on by Magpie’s Folk Cafe in conjunction with FromeFM, and the artists playing are Joanne, Sue Harding, Tim Clayton, Sarah Curtis, Sara Vian and GG.

If you fancy a relaxed ‘folky’ Sunday afternoon listening to a great set of  local singer-songwriters perform, please come along. Cost is just £5, payable on the door. Some refreshments will be available but feel free to bring your own.

New Show: Music Eye Radio!

There is a new show starting on FromeFM at 4.00pm on Saturday 15th February!

Music Eye Radio showcases emerging talent from Frome and beyond interwoven with classic tunes.  It is the voice of the Music Eye promotional platform, established in 2019 by Chris Watson, which aims to catch the butterfly at live performances, write reviews and promote on its social media channels: www.musiceye.org.
Chris also co-hosts The Music Expo Radio show on Somer Valley FM (97.5) and is a presenter on Soundcheck (Visual Radio Arts). Sara Vian is a Frome-based singer/songwriter, co-writes reviews for Music Eye, hosts the Frome Music Industry Network, presents on Soundcheck and encourages people to live the dream at Graceful Solutions!
