We Love the River Frome
A Saturday morning in December in the centre of Frome by the River and there’s something going on…….
Rivers Action in Frome: one protester donned a wetsuit and gas mask, swam from bridge to bridge and hauled out a shopping trolley. The Red Brigade were there to mourn the dying river, there were ‘fisherfolk’ pulling out skeletons of fish, a samba band hit things to attract attention and shoppers were asked to persuade our MP David Warburton to support the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill. Roving reporter Alex Hart was at the scene. This programme is available to listen to here.

Doorstep Carols on 16 December at 6pm
FromeFM will be broadcasting a Christmas carols sing-along show on Wednesday 16 December at 6pm. With massed gatherings, lights switch-ons and town centre carols events cancelled across the land, there’s a risk that Christmas 2020 could be very quiet. FromeFM is going to be playing their part to change that by encouraging people to come out on their doorstep on 16 December for our very own socially distanced festival of carols.
Graham from FromeFM said, “All you need to do to take part is download the carol lyrics, tune into FromeFM on 96.6FM or online at frome.fm at 6pm, and sing your heart out! For the musically talented amongst the residents of Frome, the sheet music is available.”
“What would be even better is if people invited their neighbours and the whole street to join in. The Doorstep Carols website has downloadable invitations that you can use.”
If you’re taking part in the merriments, please do so safely. The government rule for Frome in Tier 2 is “you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 people outside, including in a garden or a public space.”
Doorstep Carols is an initiative that was started by Shropshire Festivals, and has since gone nationwide. Let’s all bring a bit of festive cheer to our little corner of Somerset!

Sheer Isolation
FromeFM are airing a weekly programme under the name ‘Sheer Isolation’, which is built around the ‘Sheer Isolation Podcast’, a podcast produced by Sheer Music promotor Kieran Moore and ex-Treefest organiser Jon Ponting. The core ambition of the podcast is to promote the local music scene in the West of England, from bands to venues, from festivals to soloists. Each edition features an interview with a special guest, together with music news and information on how the music industry in the West Country is coping during the pandemic.
The podcast is thirty mintues long, so the remainder of the one hour programme features music by up and coming artists from the West Country. The Sheer programme currently goes out at 5pm on Thursdays and 12pm on Fridays. Find out more here.
If you are an artist local to Frome or the surrounding area and you would like your music to be played on the show, please email us at hello@nullfrome.fm.
Radio Zummerzet by the Wassail Theatre Company
Frome FM are broadcasting a one hour programme featuring the three episodes of the new radio play by the Somerset Wassail Theatre Company. Thwarted by COVID and the lockdown, and unable to perform live, Wassail have tried their hand at producing a radio play for the first time. What is very topical is that the theme of the play is community radio! Each episode features local actors playing radio hosts and members of the public in ‘call-in’ sections, along with sections to hightlight the work of local musicians. Check our What’s On listings to find out when this programme will be broadcast, or listen on demand here: Radio Zummerzet
