Frome FM

The directors of Frome FM invite the Frome public to come along on Saturday, April 1st to have a look at the town hall and our new studios. At the moment we are still building them but we will be transmitting live all afternoon from 1200-1700 if you would like to come along and be on the radio, or just meet the team and other members from Frome FM.

This would be a good opportunity to join us as a member if you have a community group or organisation that you need to tell people about or an idea for a show you’d like to do yourself. Our Saturday live broadcast will feature many of the charities and community groups who have appeared on Frome FM in the last year and we hope to have the opportunity to talk to some of our councillors and staff from the Town Council.

But it’s not all celebrities! It’s going to be a drop-in affair, so if you would like to be on air – please bring a favourite track of music on a cd so we can play it for you in the programme. There will also be a chance to meet Bernie Lyons, our breakfast presenter and some of the members and directors of Frome FM who would love to hear your comments and suggestions for programmes.

Technical Manager, Terry Stewart is transferring the equipment from The Old Courthouse, where the station has been broadcasting out of an old prison cell for the last 4 months, to the brand new Town Hall building. “We are busy building the studios right now and hope to have them completed by our team of volunteers by Saturday!”

Rupert Kirkham, a station director and presenter of the All About Frome programme on Tuesdays said, “On Saturday, we want members of the public to come and have a look round – and if they are up for it, we’ll do a live interview with anyone who brings along a cd with some music that has a particular significance for them.”

Helen Ottaway, acting chair of Frome FM, is excited about the prospects for the station, “This is a brand new start for Frome FM and shortly we’ll be introducing a vastly expanded programme schedule, involving more people from Frome in the station’s output. Our renewed license from OFCOM lets us broadcast for the next 5 years on FM in the town and online at frome.fm, where listeners can download or stream podcasts of any programmes that have gone out on the station in the last year.”

The station is currently looking for volunteer receptionists to keep the studios open for visitors and people using the facilities during the week between 0900 and 1700 – part-time people with reception or office experience would be perfect.
