Seeing Things

seeingthingsLeslie Glenn Damhus talks to FromeFM’s David Chandler about her controversial work ‘Madonna and Chimp’ and photographer Jim Dales talks about his Rook Lane exhibition.

When Leslie Glenn Damhus’ painting Madonna and Chimp was shown during the Open Art Exhibition in Spring 2010, it prompted a flurry of letters in the local papers regarding the appropriation of Christian imagery. In January this year, Black Swan Arts hosted a debate around this issue. The speakers were: Salil Tripathi, writer and policy director at the Institute for Human Rights and Business, whose most recently book is about censorship and artist Rob Irving who is undertaking doctoral research into performative action in the shaping of sacred settings.
